Hey there! I'm Aura, a visual designer now based in London. I specialise in exploring social issues through graphic media design. My work focuses on the mmarginalised and tries to use design as a medium to reveal the neglected reality. One theme I'm particularly drawn to is the concept of 'out of focus'.

I've noticed that a lot of designs about marginalised groups don't really connect with them, and it's hard to evoke empathy by depicting them too objectively or indifferently. So, I try to bring the 'I' and 'we' perspectives together to strengthen the connection between society and the marginalised.

I NEGATIVE SPACE
In my practice, I always begin with the most immediate and unavoidable experience: loneliness.
In my first work, I attempt to understand the form loneliness takes in my life—not as an abstract emotion, but as a spatial structure that expands and encroaches. I describe this structure as negative space: a space shaped by society, environment, and information, a space that pushes the subject backward until the “I” becomes weakened, blurred, and eventually engulfed.

This negative space is not quiet.
It is filled with noise—the static hum of electricity, the sound of my skin against the bedsheet, the neighbors’ conversation, the crows outside my window. These sounds become the method through which I avoid confronting myself. I believed that if the world stayed loud enough, I would not have to hear myself, or face my loneliness. I filled every empty moment with background music, podcasts, or any sound capable of occupying space.

But over time, the very noise I used to escape self-awareness began to take over.
It replaced my thinking, dulled my perception, and diminished my ability to express or connect.
Eventually, I became the negative space myself.
